After devastating wildfires have ravaged and destroyed most of Canada's vast boreal forest--triggered by unprecedented weather conditions--humanity is forced to make huge strides in saving the environment. Through a global effort, new plant biotechnologies quickly emerge which generate unbelievable plant growth, allowing forests to recover nearly ten times as fast after a forest fire.
Cora Stone, a skilled ecologist, employed by the U.S. National Forest Service, is invited by well known environmental scientist, Dr. Damon Silverman, to leave her family for three weeks and study the recovered ecosystems in Canada. However, their plans go terribly wrong when their small plane crashes and Dr. Silverman is gravely injured. Now, all alone in the wilderness, it doesn't take long for Cora to observe something is wrong with the aggressive animals living all around her. She discovers a disturbance in the food-chain. Food is scarce for the unusually high population of vicious predators. In order to survive, Cora must defend herself and find a way to restore a measure of balance to the forest's ecosystem. However, Cora only manages to land herself into another nightmare when she is rescued two years later and images of skulls--from the animals she killed--are leaked to the public. Unfairly, the Crown believes Cora has done more harm than good. Not only is Cora accused of illegally hunting these animals, but the prosecution is suspicious about the circumstances surrounding Dr. Silverman's death. Under intense political pressure, the Crown summons Cora to a preliminary hearing where she must deliver her harrowing tale of survival and defend her actions. All she wants is to return home to her family in the United States and live in peace. |
